Maiko Takeda: Dematerializing Fashion

About

Maiko Takeda and I first met when I discovered her work at the Royal College of Art Graduate Fashion show in 2013. After publishing her Atmospheric Reentry millinery collection of bristly headdresses on Dezeen, the article was read by none other than Icelandic musician Björk, who then commissioned Maiko to create costumes for her global Vulnicura tour.

Featured in the Björk exhibition at MoMA and The Met’s Manus x Machina show, Maiko has gone on to work with Japanese fashion great Issey Miyake. When she asked me to curate a digital exhibition of her work for Google Cultural Institute, I jumped at the opportunity to continue my support for this incredibly talented designer (and now friend).
