Dan Howarth uses his sharp eye, articulate writing and love of storytelling to help creatives, brands and businesses develop engaging content.

The British design writer and editor currently lives and works in New York City as a contributor and consultant for companies including Conde Nast, Kelly Wearstler, Dezeen, Base Design, Factory PR, Jakob Jakob and more.

Dan’s previous full-time roles have included Editorial Director at BMW and MINI-backed initiatives A/D/O and URBAN-X, where he also helped develop strategy for marketing, communications and social media. During his tenure at Dezeen, he worked in various writing and editing roles— interviewing everyone from Will.i.am to Zaha Hadid—before eventually setting up and running the online design magazine’s operations in the U.S. He now contributes on a freelance basis.

Dan graduated with a BA in Architectural Studies from Newcastle University, then spent a year in Shenzhen working at an interiors studio before moving into journalism. His writing has been printed in design books The House of Glam, published by Gestalten; Rizzoli’s Carpenters Workshop Gallery compendium; and a monograph of work by interior designer Magdalena Keck. He’s also penned stories for publications including Interior Design, Sight Unseen, Departures, Farfetch, Oak, The Independent, Roca Gallery, Cultured, and he curated a digital fashion exhibition for Google Cultural Institute in 2017. Dan has been nominated for multiple awards for his writing and editing.

Respected as an authority in architecture and design circles, Dan has served on award juries for AIA, Gensler, ICFF, The One Club for Creativity and more. He frequently moderates panel discussions on topics spanning the breadth of the creative industries, hosted by the likes of Soho House, Design Miami, NYCxDesign, NeoCon and many more.
